Waiting for offer letter

I was told in a phone call on Monday that I was being offered a job and that a letter with all the details would follow.
I realise I'm getting worked up far too early but no letter yet! How long do you think I should wait before chasing up? A week? 10 days? Is it possible that they won't send a letter till they have my references?
Also, I haven't informed the job centre yet as I wanted to wait for official confirmation, is this the right thing to do? Will I receive JSA up to my start date and will I still have to sign on in the meantime?
Sorry for so many questions in one post!

whoo! congratulations!
Its still early days, if you got told Monday letter was probably tyoed Tues or Wed , then gone back for whoever to sign it, then posted so i expect you would have it by weekend/Monday at latest. I would give them 10 days then follow up. Do you have a start date etc? If not i would use that as a reason to contact them if you got nothing in post.
I would inform the job centre that you have been conditionally offered a job but havent had it in writting.0
