Application form..asking for my childcare providers details? surely not

    Give ACAS a ring and see what they say.

    Personally I'd be more inclined to go to interview and play with this one....

    Like others I would be tempted to ignore these questions as they probing a little to much.

    Can't believe they would consider contacting a childminder to see what they might do - that is a step too far IMHO.

    They may be a big well know organisation but they do seem to have some odd ideas.

    You could always ask the interviewers if they have children and have childcare that covers late working. If they say yes, then say you will send your kids to their childminders then.

    I am going to have to go just to see what they say... even if they did offer me a role, i have reservations about working for an organisation that want so much info at this stage - or any stage tbh. Its hardly the secret service, and although i have to be enhanced CRB checked the info is irrelevant IMO.

    I'd be uncomfortable giving out someone else's personal details. Yes the childminder is running a business but that doesn't mean she isn't careful about who has her phone number, address etc.

    Is there anyone you can inform if you believe employers are acting illegally/potentially discriminating?

    Well it's definitely equal opportunities as it shouldn't matter whether you're married, have children or anything personal.

    What matters is whether you have the skills, experience and qualifiactions for doing the job.

    By asking they are treating you differently than someone who doesn't have children.

    They could ask if you have 'any' responsibilities that may affect your ability to work different hours/shifts at short notice if this is an essential requirement of the job because this would affect everybody and could be related to the role and responsibilities.

    A Discrimination case just waiting to happen.

    If you did work for this company, you realise that if you ever needed Emergency Dependant Leave for a sick child your boss would probably be calling around all members of your familiy you stated, plus the childminder to check they wouldn't look after the child, or take them to the Doctors for you?

    Are you married, and do you live with the child's Father !?

    When I worked for a large organisation (more than 10000 staff) there is no way our HR department would let us even think of asking those questions!

    I'm sure they would say it was handing a valid discrimination case to you on a plate!
  • I would simpley not answer these questions. It does seem several steps to far. Perhaps once you have excepted a possition there could be a valid reason to give them these detail, although I can't think of any.

    They are employing you not buying your soul?

    They might as well be asking if you have a dog which can be left until late in the evening, or elderly relatives for whom you provide care.

    I would write to the Company's HR director pointing out the discriminatory nature of these questions. The senior managers may be blissfully unaware. And I wouldn't apply to work at such a Company either.
