Self employed tax return - newbie!

Hi
I'm helping a friend do his tax return online.
I've not done this before neither has he!
He's self employed, uses his home as his office, but drives each day to a unit on a site where he does his manual work and then drives home again.
Can he claim petrol and repairs to his car?
Can he claim for using his home as his office?
Can he claim for his telephone & mobile bills?
Any help will be greatly appreciated
