Trying to get partner off mortgage

Hello,

My partner and I split in Feb 2009 and since then I've been paying the mortgage on my own. There have been a couple of payments bounce and come out later in the month (I get paid by cheque and occasionally the cheque book goes missing so the money doesn't clear in time) but apart from that no issues. I have missed a couple of payments on a store card, so not sure if that will affect my credit?

I tried to transfer the equity into my name about 3 months after we split and it came back (from Alliance & Leicester) saying they couldn't take his name off.

He wants to buy a house with his girlfriend, so we've started the whole rigmarole again. I've been told I can get his name off the deeds without his name coming off the mortgage but obviously he needs to come off both. What can I do to make sure I can get him off of the mortgage?

I was going to send bank statements supporting the fact I've been making payments on my own for over a year, and write a letter stating my case. I was also going to get my ex to write a letter stating that he needs to take his name off of the mortgage.

Is there anything else I can try, and how likely is it to work???

Any help would be much appreciated.
Lisa

The bank won't take into consideration that you've been making the payments yourself, or that your ex 'needs' to take his name off.

Your credit will be affected by missing payments on the store card, and by the bounced cheques. What's the outstanding mortgage amount, the value of the house, and your salary? Might be that selling up and starting over is the best option?

Is this a sister thread to this one:

  • No, his gf is called Anna, and they forced me into this position by seeing each other behind my back - not bitter at all! :D

I've got £129,000 left on the mortgage. Interesting reading through that thread though - if I get someone to act as a guarantor - will that affect them at all, if they want to get a mortgage (it'll probably be my dad and he already has a mortgage, does that matter?).

I wouldn't sell - this is my dream house, it's 2 minutes from my work, and I've put a lot of time and money into it because I planned on staying there!

Failing that, can he get a mortgage with his ex whilst I try to sort everything out my end?

Thanks for all your help (I forgot about this thread in all my tizzying)
