Green group wanted near Norwich

Hi Everyone

I was wondering if anyone knows how I would find any groups near to where I live, I am in Lowestoft which is not too far from Norwich. I would like to join a group to make friends and have a social life with like minded people, hopefully to make friends that would involve my husband and children. My children are 6 and 4 so they are too old for me to join toddler groups.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received !

Thanks,
Bek :o)

  • I'm in Lowestoft!

I have a friend that arranges monthly(ish) talks on different things (went to one on using herbs last week - but still can't make myself like the taste of herbal teas!)

At Boston Lodge they offer lots of free or nearly free courses on alternative therapies etc. Could be a good place to meet people - I have a friend who works there and she is lovely!

Volunteer! Or even better start your own project! I always thought that there was a need for a gardening buddies group in Lowestoft i.e. people with experience of gardening help those without experience, plant swapping etc.

I've been trying to set up a community allotment project but never had the time to get it going yet (plus plants die when I go anywhere near me).

There are several greenish projects locally The Good Food Coop (I'm the project Officer on that one), Mow and Grow, The Reuse Park (that's a huge project and not sure how far they are with getting it going but could find out for you).

There is no green group as far as I know but lots of little projects that are in some way green. I have loads of contacts if you want to find out about any of them.

I don't suppose your 6 year old goes to Pakefield Primary or Oulton Broad Primary? My daughter is 6 and has been going to Pakefield but moving to OB Primary this term.

Why not try your local Waveney Freecycle Group? They may have a 'cafe' group where this sort of thing can be discussed.

I'm a moderator on the Ipswich one, so I know the mods on Waveney are friendly.

    Cheers, Martin.

I just found this Beccles friends of the earth website - it seems a bit neglected but it might be worth an email to find out if it is still active.

    http://www.becclesfoe.mtxnet.co.uk/

Here is the Norwich Friends of the Earth group website http://www.foenorwich.org.uk/

There also appears to be a FoE group in Great Yarmouth that meets at the Star Hotel but I can't find any proper details of it - might be worth phoning the Star Hotel in Yarmouth and asking if they know anything about it.

I also found the website about the Waveny Greenpeace Fair (eventually - couldn't remember what it was actually called) http://www.waveneygreenpeace.org.uk/ that is being held this coming weekend - I should imagine that would be a good place to find other likeminded people and groups.

Also for the kids there is a woodcraft folk group in Pakefield but I can't find any details of it. They have a national website though at https://www.woodcraft.org.uk
