My credit file seems clear (ish)...why cant I get credit??

Hi, I have a quick question;
I have recently seen my credit report for the first time on experian. Despite inputting all my previous (many!) addresses for the past 10 or so years, all it shows me on my report is a cleared "satisfactory" avon account from 2005 and a ccj for under £200 from 2008.
It shows me as financially linked to my ex and Ive filled in a form to be disassociated from him, and about 75 linked addresses (mainly duplicates) and LOADS of searches on my credit file for the past year.
So my question is, is that it?
According to the report, if I pay the ccj (which I can easily do) I will have a clean credit record, is this right?
I was under the impression I had debts, as I remember having a joint loan with my ex of £1000 which defaulted - but as they are still sending letters to my mums address maybe that loan is still in the salvageable stage where I can offer a payment plan?
Basically what Im saying, is could the fact I am not on the electoral roll and have so many credit searches listed against me, be the only reason I cannot get credit? I cant even get a current account
Or have experian got it wrong somehow?

Even when you pay the CCJ off it will still appear on your report until 2014. Satisfied it better than unsatisfied but will still affect your ability to get credit.
Not being on the electoral roll will have a huge impact on you not getting credit.
Lots of searches are not great but it will be the other 2 issues causing the problem, and the electoral roll will be why you cannot get a standard current account.
You also need to check your equifax report and possibly your call credit one to get a full picture as not all creditors report to all 3 agencies.
How long ago do you think you defaulted on the loan with your ex? It could be that some of the debts you remember were defaulted more than 6years ago and then would no longer appear on your credit reports.
Have you responded to the letters to mums house re the loan? if not then this could be statute barred, don't respond to them until you have given us more info on when it might have last been paid by either you or ex.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
The whole system of getting credit in this country is a law unto itself in my view.
There can be a squillion reasons why you dont get credit, the "computer says no" is a symptom of why this country is in a shambles right now..
You can get a basic account though at the likes of Co Op Bank etc..0 -
Thanks, I do have a basic account with halifax so Im not too fussed about not being able to get a current account...the reason I want to regain my credit rating is mainly so I can get credit if needs be in future - a motgage etc.
The last payment made to the loan people was probably mid 2008, maybe slightly earlier like March/April 2008...yes I think a lot of the debts were more than 6 years ago, yay
I have to send upload my birth certificate to Equifax before I can get a report from them, and I havent tried call credit as yet as I dont want to be charged £12 particularly, especially if it will just say the same as the other 2 places?Make £10 a day challenge July - £29/£3100 -
Only £2 to get a credit report if you just ask for the statutory one by post (from callcredit or any of the others- callcredit is the least used agency so maybe just get equifax & experian for now, if you are still unsure you could then get the callcredit one). Equifax prob need your birth certificate to prove your identity (as you are not on the electoral roll).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
