Help
Bought some ox liver today as it was reduced, but i've never cooked with it before?
Can I treat it as per lambs liver, or has anyone got any suggestions for a tasty treat with this?
Thanks in advance.

It needs to be cooked much more slowly than lambs liver, and it is a stronger taste. I do it in a casserole, layered with thinly sliced potatoes, onions and carrots. I generally chuck in a sausage each and a bit of bacon if I have any. Pour over 1/2 pint of gravy, cover with foil and cook about 160 electric, gas mark 4-5 for a couple of hours
My family love it with a bit of crusty bread to mop up the gravy0 -
Many years ago, before I was a vegetarian, I used to love ox liver. (Shame on me I know), anyway, dipped it in seasoned flour and gently fried it with onions . The other way was similar to fudgem's method with onions, bacon and gravy.
No, I couldn't eat it now, nor could I be persuaded!0 -
I shall have a go at both of those I think.
I adore liver, and brought a nice big box of it for 35p from morrisons reduced stuff today.

It's good to soak it for a wee while in milk - ox liver has a much stronger taste than lambs liver and the milk just softens the taste. I love liver and eat it loads - chicken livers flash fried with garlic, lambs liver fried briefly, calves liver (on high days only) flash fried with nothing and good old ox liver too. They are all packed with iron and extremely good for you.
Cook some caramelised onions (slice thinly, fry in hot oil/butter and add a tiny wee bit of sugar, let them cook over a slow gas for about 15 minutes but don't move them around the pan) and they'll go perfectly! I'd always have creamy mash with liver and pile the onions in the middle of the mash!!0 -

Foreverskint, just one wee word though, the taste is much stronger than lamb's liver from what I can remember - actually don't think I liked lamb's liver that much..........forgive me, it's been quite some time (over 20 years is all I am prepared to admit to).;)
Both ways are good though - being a vegetarian doesn't stop me being able to cook meat or give advice on it! Although must admit my handling of meat is with tongs these days, and I am not good with some stuff. Anyway, got my professional taster to hand to sample everything, and he is well alive & kicking!0
