when do you start paying?

Hi, i am in desperate need of some clarification please

I rang the CSA last week to make a payment as the standing order had come to an end and no-one informed me it would.

anyway, whilst on the phone the man i spoke to at Belfast ( i think)
said that there was £160 arrears showing on the account.

I have asked for a breakdown, which they have sent out and i should receive this week.

I had another phonecall from them today to verify that it is me that owes the money, so when i asked when its from as i have paid since the first day they contacted me, they couldnt tell me. BUT what he did say is that
' the claim was opened on the 15/8/2008, they contacted me in march 09 IIRC, and i duly replied, and called them straight away to pay any arrears outstanding, which at the time they said was £35, so i paid it by debit card.

They are saying that i owe money from 15/8/2008 to May 2009 even though they didnt contact me til march 09 and i paid £35 over the phone which was outstanding apparently at the time.

I always pay every week, by direct debit, £5.

Im so worried as i just dont have the money to pay it back. And as far as i am concerned i owe from the date they first contacted me! They have said i can pay it back at £20 a month on top of my normal amount, but thats still going to be hard for me

so is CSA calculated from the day PWC makes a claim or from the day CSA make contact with the NRP ?

Thankyou

They can only backdate to the first date they made contact with you - either by letter (address has to be confident) or phone. You want to know why the effective date is set for August 08 - what attempts to contact you were made at that time. If none, then it is too bad for them, the effective date would be May 2009.

Also, I would start communicating with them via email or letter only from now on & keep copies of everything sent & received. Send any letters by at least recorded delivery.

It may take longer but they will then be accountable for the information they give out, whereas they can deny any information given out on the phone even they're supposed to be recorded!
