Fastest way to remove INCORRECT default notice from credit file.

I was hoping that someone might be able to give me some advice/information.

I had an old credit card account with LLoyds TSB which was previously passed on to MHA Collections. I paid a final settlement on the account with MHA in Spetember 2009. I applied for a loan with Tesco Finance this week and my application was declined. I was shocked to find out that the reason for this refusal was that Lloyds had put a default notice on my credit file in March this year, over 6 months after I had settled the account! (and without notifying me that a Default Notice was going to be served).

I have contacted Lloyds TSB and MHA Collections on many occasions to try and get my credit report ammended accordingly but both agencies have been very unhelpful and it appears that getting the relevant ammendments may take up to 2 months!!!

My application for a loan was to pay for medical expenses that I have and is REALLY important to me. Any advice on what to do would be REALLY appreciated! I have already spoken to Equifax and they have said that there is nothing they can do on the matter until Lloyds send them confirmation that the account was settled. I have also lodged a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman.

Thanks in advance.

They can place a default on your account at any time (although i would check with the nationaldebtline if they are able to put a default on a settled account - pretty sure they can't)

I would also make a complaint to the Information Commissioners Office. They are in breach of the data protection act by placing incorrect data on your file and may be required to pay compensation for any financial loss resulting from this.

If you have not already written a formal complaint to Lloyds, i would do so now and request a letter that you can send to Tesco finance indicating that this has been put there in error. Hopefully you can then appeal the Tesco finance decision and get the loan.

As this is an old post, I advise you send sjk100 a PM, as your unlikely to get a reply otherwise.
