A quick hair dying question

Hi All, can anyone advise?
I colour my own hair at the moment (used to have it done beautifully at the salon but way too expensive). I'm currently a mahogany (dark brown/red) colour but fancy going lighter maybe even to an ash blonde. I've tried this once before using a blonde colour and just ended up a nasty ginger colour. Can anyone give me tips on how/if it can be done or is it something best left to the professionals?
thanks everyone
x

I'm no hairdresser but I believe that you can't lift colour with colour. You would have to use peroxide to strip out the colour first.....I think. I would leave it to a pro if I were you....:D

cheers petal, I was afraid that may be the answer....and stripping sounds a bit drastic to be doing without the proper equipment :)
maybe I'd best stay brown and find anorher way to brighten myself up!

Have you tried your nearest college?? My friend did hairdressing at college and they were always screaming for models to train on. Its always supervised and you only pay the cost of materials. Depending on what you want done you might need a patch test( esp if you have coloured your hair at home) but you might get nearer what you want at a fraction of the cost. Same for beauty therapy courses.
