To start with always seek advice from one of the charities - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2077631
If they suggest a DMP then they won't charge a fee for administering it. If they suggest an IVA you will know they are acting impartially. And you can then decide whether to go with them or someone else.
If you are considering and IVA might be worth reading this to see if you are one of the few people who it might help (they not suitable for many people who post on here) http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/pdf-iva-guide.pdf
What the charity will need to know is a list of your debts and your incomings and outgoings, therefore it might help if you complete one of these before you speak to them so you have all the info to hand - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
If you want you could also post your SoA on here for people on here to advise what might suit you best and whether there are any other changes you could make to improve your finances. We can also give an indication of what expenditure may or may not be allowed in a DMP or IVA.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
