Car Finance
Options
I was just after some information really.
My credit rating at the moment is very poor there are 4 defaults on my account (settled), 2 of which are due to drop off this year (about August time) the other two by November next year.
After about 7 years of paying off debts, awful credit rating etc tbh I never want to go near a credit card or loan ever ever again.
I'm saving up at the moment to buy a new car as mine is 12 years old and unfortunately as much as I love him is costing more and more money to keep running. I was hoping in 6 months time to have saved up enough to get a new (secondhand) car but at the moment my car isnt starting everytime, I'm getting my mechanic friend to have a look and hopefully its just going to be quite cheap to fix and will keep me going.
The thing I'm worried about is I need my car to get to and from work and if it conks out altogether I dont have the luxury (?!) of being able to get a loan/finance.
I guess my different options are:
- Keep car running as long as possible, save up as much money as possible and if needed use a company such as Payday Express to make up enough to buy a car (though I dont want to do that, maybe I could borrow it off a family member although I dont normally borrow off anyone)
- Borrow off a family member if possible (again dont normally do this)
What is the story with someone guaranteeing a car finance? I don't particularly want to go down this road tbh but just wanted some information so I know what all the options are.

Do not use payday loans at over 2000% apr if you think you got problems now its nothing compared to what you will have0

thanks for your reply wr1ght! Yes that's what I was thinking, not a good idea at all really!
Think I'll just keep saving and keep my fingers crossed that my car lasts for the next six months!
I don't have money problems anymore as such, just a low wage and worried that my car will break and wont have the funds to buy a new one but its still running at the moment (albeit unreliably) was just trying to figure out what options I had.
Thanks again!0 -
if desperate car craft can normaly help people, but they are.... so I read0

If a car does not start very well, I have found that a new set of plugs and leads (about £30.00) can make a massive difference.0

thank you ILW and matt! Yes when I searched around on the internet on car starting problems from what seems to be happening I think it could be the starter motor or loose connections or maybe a solonoid. Are plugs and leads anything to do with any of them? Hopefully like you say it should be something that is cheap to fix just to keep me going as really not liking the idea of credit, even if its borrowing off family it makes me feel allinside.
Am hoping my mechanic friend will be able to have a look at it very soon and he's good at keeping the cost down!

this is exactly my situation from the 12 year old car not starting, to considoring car finance options... My car needs engine replacement (pistons rings went), and will cost quite a bit.
