You only have to look at the equity release situation to realise how the beneficiaries suddenly come out of the woodwork and start complaining when they find out they are not getting the value of the property as their inheritance.
Like Conrad, I believe there should be personal choice but the problem is that nanny state and compensation culture that we live in. Common sense and personal responsibility are not catered for under the FSA. Its all hindsight regulation with changing goalposts on the assumption that everyone is stupid and have to be protected from themselves.
Lenders that dont lend over x age are only doing it to protect themselves from future liability.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
