Working a Notice Period While on Sick Leave?

Hi,

I have been having a hard time at work for a long time. My boss is a complete bully. She is awful. She caused so much stress and bad feeling at work. I have been working there 4 years and have been actively looking for a new job for a year without luck.

2 months ago, I got to the end of my tether after I was accidentally sent an email from one of the Directors talking to another Director about me. The email content was horrible, and a complete bunch of lies. I think one of the Directors (the owner) is trying to make me look incompetent to the other new Director. There was a sentence in the email which stated "well, we know what we need to do with her and as soon as we can do it, the better... then everything will work out"

I called a meeting with the Owner Director regarding this and said I wanted to leave the company. I asked her about the sentence above and she said she hadn't actually had time to read though the email in question so couldn't comment on what was meant by the sentence. She then went onto quote other parts of the email - so she knew exactly what I was asking and lied to try and cover it up.

I know exactly what is happening - I have worked there for 4 years, and I am the only one out of 3 of us that knows the business inside out. The other full time employee only knows a very small aspect of the job and the 3rd employee has only worked with us for 4 days. They are trying to hold onto me until we have completely new systems in 3 months time - where my knowledge I have built up wiil be completely useless, therefore making me disposable.

My boss concluded that it would be a great shame to loose me (I am the only one who knows what they are doing) and put into place an action plan of how to make it all better. To date, nothing has been done and things have gone from bad to worse.

I had a call from a sales consultant the other day with her shouting at me down the phone and calling me thick. I would have normally told they to not speak to me like that and call back when they have calmed down, but they are so well looked after by my company I dared not say it and just ended up bursting into tears.

Sooo, my doctor has signed me off for 2 weeks for stress, anxiety and panic attacks with the possibility of another 2 weeks. I refuse to go back. I have to give a months notice - but I dont understand if I am obliged to work it if I am signed off? How do I go about never going back if I have to work a months notice?

Any advice would be great xxxx

Are you absolutely sure that you never want to go back?

If not, you can hand your notice in and get another sick note and you will never have to set foot in there again/
