Leaving work without giving notice

Hi everyone,

I have been off work for stress recently and am not sure if I want to go back however i'm not keen on working my notice period (4 weeks).

What are the implications of this? I expect at the very least I won't get paid any monies outstanding which I am fine with, is it possible for me to 'just leave'.

Thanks in advance

If you get another sick note to cover your notice period you will never have to go back.

You'll most likely not get a decent reference.

best be honest with the firm, and say you cant cope- they might help, or not..

i was in a similar position a few years ago, off for quite a while with nasty bug- but workload wasnt touched, and trying to catch up just made my health
    worse.

make a clean break, get some rest, and go agaiN!

Thanks - i've got some savings so i'm not desperate to find another job for a few months and I feel taking an extended break will give me time to decide what I wanna do career wise.

I work in a relatively small firm and cannot imagine my boss wouldn't be too helpful, she just thinks about the profits ££!

She might if you said 'look, I don't want to take the P and be off sick for months on end thereby mucking you about so I'm going to come clean and resign in return for a decent ref and it leaves you open to recruit with no worries about me.

I think that is the best bet - try and leave on a good note with your boss - it will help you no end when refrences are requested.

If I was you I would get another sick note and ring the company and tell them this may go on indefinate and you can understand how hard this is for the company so you are willing to discuss resigning on grounds of ill health if this helps the company, she who must be obeyed did this a few years ago and the started with an opening offer of paying 8 weeks, we finally settled on 10 with a pre written aceptable reference. Give it a go afterall they will think they are getting off lightly and you on the otherhand gain a bit.
