HM breadcakes and burgers

Options
We're having burgers and potatoe wedges for tea tonight! I've made some HM breadcake (this breadmaking is addictive!!)

Not sure if OH will eat burgers that are in HM breadcakes! It's not such a weird thought is it? saves me going out and spending money today! Should he just take what he's given?

Sounds lovely to me, I made a batch of HM bread cakes last night from dough made in the bread maker. I use them for filled rolls for packed lunches.

Isn't it nice to have bread that tastes of something? Rather than the tastless bagged stuff from the supermarket.

Just don't tell him them are HM! If he's anything like mine he probably won't notice!

I don't think I'll go back to buying bread TBH the HM bread is much better than I thought and I'm quite happy to have burgers in the cakes!

The BM bread reminds me of my childhood when my dad used to make bread and sweat the house out because he'd have the fire on full to make the dough rise! I'm quite tempted to buy him the £14.99 breadmaker but as he now buys the 9p loafs, and money is the key - I don't think he'd use it often!

I'm even tempted to buy one for work and show the family learning group how to make bread and couple it in with a trip to a nearby windmill!

So far my OH has never refused anything presented to him. Yes he does like his food and will always eat what he's given.....but he will always give me an honest answer when I ask if it was okay or not.

Give it a try and see what happens. You might find that it becomes a regular thing. We now no longer own a deep fat fryer...because we love HM chips / wedges.

Thanks for that Catowen, I was wondering what breadcakes were (well I'd worked it out),are they the same as barmcakes? We call them rolls, and I made a batch by hand yesterday.

make the dough in the breadmaker, then split it into "rolls" and leave it to rise another 30minutes then bake in the oven at 190' for 15 minutes!

Here is my recipe for bread rolls by hand

Makes 12 – 16 depending how big you want them.

2 lb bread flour (I usually use 1 ½ lb white and ½ lb wholemeal, sometimes I sub ¼ lb for oatmeal)
    4 tsp easy-blend yeast
    2 tsp sugar
    2 tsp salt
½ pint of milk + ½ pint hot water in the same jug (or use 1 pint of hot water and add 3 tbsp dried milk to the flour)
4 oz butter (optional, but makes them richer)

Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
    Rub in the butter.
Pour in the liquid and mix to a soft dough, you may need more flour if it is too sticky.
    Knead for about 4 mins.

Leave to rise in a bowl covered by a damp cloth for 1 ½ hours.
Knock back and divide into 12 or 16 portions.
Shape them into slightly flattened rolls and place on a floured baking tray.
With a floury thumb press each one in the middle( this keeps them from turning into tennis balls).
Cover with the cloth again and leave to prove for 25 mins.

    Bake at 220 c for 20 mins.

If you want soft rolls cover them with a dry tea towel when they come out of the oven and leave covered till cool.
