Interest & Charges once an account is closed

Hi

I'm just after a bit of advice regarding a closed account. Basically one of my creditors has written to me to tell me that my account is now closed as I have failed to pay the requested amount on the Default Notice sent.

I never received a Default Notice.

My query is the following, if the account is now closed can the company continue to add interest and charges to my account, as surely once the account is closed then there is no longer a contract between them and myself.

Thanks in advance

My understanding is once a default notice is issued, they have to stop all charges and interest, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
Not an expert, but I try and contribute and I'll always listen. Middle child of middle child parents. I drink way too much coffee.
