Gothia and Property Charging Order - Help please!

Hi, I have received a letter from a solicitor called Largo Law who are acting on behalf of Gothia (who I had never heard of until this letter).
They are claiming that I owe in the region of £4000 for a debt on a car I bought in 1995. The debt they say is from 1997, I presume thats when I last made a payment. It is no longer on my credit file and I thought was Statute barred.
They say they are trying to get a property charging order on my house - I am not even sure what this is, but I also would like to know if they are within their rights to do this?
The debt is 13 years old!! I had problems at the time which meant I was unable to pay it, but am I still at risk now?
Please could someone give me some advice as I am worried what will happen now, especially when my home is threatened.
Thank you in advance....

Was the car finance a secured loan?
Have you checked with the Registry Trust to see if they have a CCJ against you?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
OK I just checked on the regsitry website, there is nothing at all registered against meEngland and Wales Orders & JudgmentsNOTHING REGISTEREDEngland and Wales High Court JudgmentsNOTHING REGISTEREDEngland and Wales Fine DefaultsNOTHING REGISTERED
Do I still need to worry?0 -
OK, there is no CCJ against this debt.
Was the car on hire purchase or secured loan (secured debt) or was it an unsecured loan (unsecured debt). If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Sounds like scare tactics to me!! I would follow the Statute barred route -template letter is in this forum.!"£$%^&*()0

When you buy a car, you can secure the loan against the car, which means the company can repossess it if you do not pay up. They have 12 years to chase secured debt.
However, if you think this was unsecured debt, then this statute barred, as there is no CCJ they can enforce against it.
Write them a standard SB letter. Do you have one?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
