It is not in any way unfair. You made the decision to run up debt and however much you regret it now, it's time to act responsibly, face up to the consequences of what you did and to pay the piper. It's a horrible situation to be in and it is very hard but it is NOT in any way unfair. A "woe is me, everything is against me" attitude is not going to help you.

Try not to concentrate on what might have been - concentrate on what will be once you've got things sorted!

I am exactly the same and can get very depressed thinking about houses. But I cheer myself up by thinking when we do buy a house it will be from the best possible position - debt free and with a responsible and sustainable attitude to money. There are an awful lot of people who look like they're having a whale of a time - nice houses, holidays and posh cars. But I know they don't earn that much more than me and suspect it's all on credit. I have to learn to stop keeping up with the Joneses, otherwise I'll never be happy in myself.
