Hi
Like the look of the ipad, but been wanting an imac for ages and seems to make more sence to spend the monry and get the imac!
Had a look on Apple web site, but does not give model number, any idea?
As it is best part of £1K want to get the best deal possible of course, and make sure I get the new up to date model.
Also never had a mac before, just a normal home user, do I need iworks?
Thanks

Have you thought about 2nd hand?. there are good savings to be had,
I picked up the i7 Quadcore on Ebay 3 months old with receipt retails for £1900 for £1300, there are some good bargains to be had on ebay if you shop local and make sure its almost new
I was not a Mac person, but something happended after I got an iPhone, then ended up with the iPad and now got rid of my big home PC for a 27" Quadcore iMac
+ Point : Very easy to set up and the included software allows you to install Windows 7 as well as Mac OSX and you can boot up either by pressing a button on the keyboard,
+ Point : Very quiet, I almost miss the fans in my old PC
+ Point : Runs well does not have problems you seem to get with PCs
- Point, not easy to do any upgrades if you are into upgrading
- Point, takes some getting used to if you are used PCs
- Point, that tiny wireless keyboard is no good for chunky fingers
Anyway I am learning to live with it, still flick back to win7 a lot but spending more time on OSX now, I would say if you can afford it go for the quadcore i5 or i7 - the dual cores seemed fairly slow if you have had a fast pc!Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
Do not feel confident about buying 2nd hand, as I do not know what I am looking for!
Will not be upgrading, my old desktop is 6 years old so do not think speed will be a problem, also have tiny fingers 5ft 1 woman!
Just think the Apple imac looks so good!0 -

Have a look in the reconditioned section of the Apple site for bargains which are still under warranty.
The latest up to date models are on the front page of the site.
If you study with the OU you get around a 10% discount and cheap software etc. Plus the 3 year warranty which costs around £159 (I believe but I can't get on the site to check as it has upgrades going on), can be had for £44!John

I've recently purchased a 21.5 imac!
If you're a student (or know someone with a NUS card) you can get an education discount via nus.org.uk. I saved £150 this way. Or if you have access to a Universities network, go via Top Cashback (for 4% back) and then click on the education store and it should let you go right though.
