Just got our quarterly staements through and Britisg Gas are increasing our monthly direct debits by a third each month - now gas will be £44 and electric £45.00
Now we acknowledge we are in debit with electric but the gas is in credit by £50!
how can I dispute this?

Phone them and negotiate a payment with them. You can also ask for a refund. I did this with SWALEC. Give them a customer reading of your meter. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

im still furious with BG both gas n electric bills were hugely over estimated - i phoned 3 weeks ago with correct readings and heard nothing - phone them after 10 days and was told the readings had been picked up but not actioned - was told they would be actioned immediately and still have not heard anything - gas have dropped my monthly payment from 90 to 60 a month but they still owe me over 120 to my figures and they havent dropped my electric and i am expecting a refund of about 400 from that bill!!!! - i bet it would have been actioned alot quicker if i owed them the moneyolympic challenge starting 7/1/07:j0

As this is the summer you might expect your account to be in credit by a modest amount.
If you feel the monthly amount is too much, look at your yearly usage (take the last 4 quarterly bill readings ) and work out how much this will costs over the coming year (using that lastest rates as there has been big rises in prices ), divide by 12 and you can see what a reasonable amount each month will be.0 -
We had this problem when we switched from bg, They owed us on our gas account £52 and it took me 2 months to get it. I eventually had to send a LBA to them, thought it was a bit cheeky of me but i got my money back ha ha.
Also they said we owed £20 on the electric account and they actually wrote this off after all the probs we had.
Keep on at them and threaten them,
Thanks

I'm more annoyed that since jan they've almost double both our monthly DD!
I'm just ringing round other suppliers and based on last years usage I'm getting some good quotes i.e. British Gas want £1068 over the year, Atlantic based on last years usage want £673.55 which is cheaper than what I'm paying now!:T

I have recently prepared a new budget for myself and I have allowed £45 a month for gas and £45 a month for electric. I think we have to accept that these prices have gone up so much in the last year and we need to ensure we are putting enough aside to cover it. In the past I obviously wasn't budgeting well enough and ended up being stung by huge bills in the winter. This year I hope to continue putting this amount aside even during summer and hopefully this will cover my large winter bills.
It is very exasperating but I think anything less than £90 a month for fuel bills for an 'average' household is going to leave people constantly in arrears.0 -
Result - I requested a manual review rather than the automated one and as a result he gas is not increasing until/if it goes into debit. and the electric is only increasing by £2.50 a month!
Atlantic can still do it cheaper but OH hasn't heard of them and so doesn't want to switch for the sake of £8 a month!

grrrrrrrrrrr more furious with bg now - just called them to chase up my overpayment and they have said that it will take at least another 6 weeks to sort out and they wont let me drop my electric payments till then cos it might cause a further delay - if it takes 6 weeks it will clash with me swapping over to atlantic and further delay my refund grrrrrrrrrrrr i could scream - that money would have come in very handy with the return to school/college expenses:mad:olympic challenge starting 7/1/07:j0

I'd overpaid powergen by £60 this last quarter, got straight on the phone and two days later the money was in my account. BG are pants so I would seriously consider changing, for the customer service alone!0
