Sorry to double post on the forums but my mum is really concerned, and I thought that this forum would have a few people with know how about credit reference agencies....
So how do you stop a company falsely registering negative information about you? All information in a thread in Home Phone entitled "Post Office threatening credit blacklisting when THEY owe us money! Help!"
I would do a link but as I am using an alter because it's not my query I can't.... sorry

Why/how are they threatening this?
If she owes nothing there is nothing to report.0 -
Rather than send people on a mad search I'll copy and paste the content of the other thread, once again sorry to cross post in the forums.
I'm posting seeking advice on behalf of my mum. As she lives rurally she does not have a great choice of internet service providers, only BT or the Post Office. Other providers have to go via BT and therefore are just not competitive. Big problem in rural areas but there you are.
As a result the most cost effective options are to go for calls/broadband packages with these providers. Therefore about 18 months ago mum opted for a post office landline/broadband package (having previously been on payg dial up).
When renewal time came up after the initial 12 month contract expired we found that BT's anytime package with broadband was far more competitive due to the post office call charges being quite high, so mum opted to change.
BT started to provide her Broadband from 29th January, and I know she started using it that day as I was the one who set it up for her. The Phone Line went to BT on the 9th February.
She paid her standard quarterly Post Office Bill on 29th January for £112.29 which covered call charges from 21st October-20th January and Line Rental/Broadband from 21st January to 20th April. She then received a further bill marked 'Final Bill' for £19.00 which she paid in cash at her local post office.
We didn't notice at the time, but the figures above don't add up, mum only had line rental from the 21st to the 9th Feb and broadband from the 21st to the 29th Jan. There were certainly call charges incurred in these 18 days, and a portion of line rental and broadband, but these wouldn't have exceeded the £45 that three months' line rental and broadband cost plus a further £19. Mum was definitely out of the 12 months' contract when BT took over too, I made doubly sure of that so there's no penalty element there.
Not only this but mum has now received a further bill for £42.10. They are aggressively chasing this bill and threatening debt collectors and credit blacklisting. This is really worrying mum but we just can't see how she owes this money at all - if anything she has already overpaid them.
The problem arises because mum paid the bill in cash at her local post office then shredded the bill and the receipt. I KNOW the bill was paid, mum doesn't ignore bills. We have proof the quarterly bill was paid but not the final bill.
I will be looking over the figures later this week but I'm posting for any advice you can give, mum will be reading this but doesn't have sufficient forum experience to post herself. Mum has contacted them via phone on more than three occasions to dispute the bill, each time being told it'll be sorted but then receiving further threats in the post.
Sorry it's so long!0 -
