I made cream of vegetable soup last night, it usually lasts for a couple of days, but when I went to put it in plastic boxes this evening to freeze, it smelt a bit weird. Also has a different taste than normal, difficult to describe.
Anyone know why it's gone a bit funny - I'm eating it because I don't think it'll do me any harm and I don't want to waste it
It does use milk, but it's never been a problem before...
(didn't know where else this could go, but if it's in the wrong place I will understand why it gets moved

Could it be that the cream/milk was on the turn and that has gone off?GC - March 2024 -0

Did you keep it in the fridge last night or has it been lurking on the stove for 24 hours? :eek:Just run, run and keep on running!0

It was covered up on the side, as it wasn't cool by the time we all went to bed. It was on the stove this morning, so think someone moved it, but hope she moved it back to the side before using the oven.
We have always left soup on the side covered up, always lasts a good 2, possibly even 3 days.

It sounds like it cooled down, and then warmed up again when the oven was on, is this the first time it has gone off this quickly? I would say make it again and see what happens.0

I have real problems whenever I add milk or cream to soups. In one memorable case my leek and potato soup made H and I as sick as dogs!
I'm convinced adding cream/milk/dairy to warm/hot soups is a recipe for disaster now - if I want to add cream to a soup and I want to keep it for the next day, I split the soup in half and add some cream to the bit we're going to eat now. The next day I add the cream to the next half.0 -
It sounds as though the milk has gone off with the soup being left out, it can happen easily.
I make the soup and then put the milk/cream in the bit we are eating that day.
I would not risk eating it, you could end up being rather poorly.

Well, I seem ok today - I do have a fairly strong stomach :rotfl: but the pan stinks to high heaven - thankfully it's in the dishwasher!
Penny - as far as I know the milk had been kept ok - it was in the fridge when i bought it, and it went straight in the fridge when i got home.
catowen - it usually lasts a good couple of days, think I'll make it again in a week or so and see how we go!
I reckon it was probably the milk that made it go funny, as the tomato soup I made at the same time is fine - still tastes ok and no odd smells.
Thanks to all of you for the help!Blood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0 -
I made some leek and potatoes soup and left it out with a cover on this Summer and it fermented so that is another possibility.0
