Hypnotherapy/NLP training?

Hi I have been looking into Hypnotherapy/NLP courses and was wondering if anyone has done training or works as one now and if there's much call for this work? Any advice would be great.

I have a friend that has done this.

Tough to build up a business if you go self employed I think you need decent amounts of cash to back you up till the revenues start flowing.

What sort of clients are you thinking of aiming at?

    Hi,
I've been practicing NLP and Hypnotherapy full time for the past six years and have built up practices in three towns/cities.

You didn't mention where you're based. I trained with British Ethical School of Therapies (aka BEST Coaching) they're based in Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Sheffield. If you're in the South of England then I would recommend the Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis.

If they're not in your area then make sure you only pay out for a course that is approved by one of the regulatory bodies who are themselves approved by The United Kingdom Confederation of Hypnotherapy Organisations, or the Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation. Avoid distance learning courses, it's not something you can learn to practitioner level in this way. There are a few University/College courses around now but most are predominantly theory based and very slow. I had a client who was one year into a hypnotherapy course at a University and had less practical knowledge than I had after just the first day of my training (she probably remembered the history of hypnosis better than me though!).

Yes, there is a call for it. I left a £50kpa career to do this. Many do fail, usually because they didn't get support from their training school, weren't taught how to set up/didn't have business experience. Your training provider should spend at least some time explaining how to set up/market yourself and the industry standard is that they should be helping you through a further 450 practical hours after completing the course.

Edit: I forgot to mention........ I (and a few other hypnotherapists I know) have actually been busier during the recession but also felt the benefits of price cuts on my overheads. I actually moved my main practice into a very upmarket city centre office due to the cuts in rent/licence costs during this time.
