Bra size and sore boobs

Hi, I am 48 years old and going through the menopause. My doctor put me on HRT a few months ago and it made me feel unwell and my boobs were really sore so I came off it. Since coming off HRT my boobs felt OK at first and now they have started to feel sore again but not as much as before.
My bra size went up one size when I started the HRT and hasn’t gone down as yet. My usual bras were hurting me so I have got the next size up to wear for the time being until it goes down again. However, these new bras are digging in me a bit and my boobs are sore again. I have measured my chest and I have got the right size bra. I did buy a cheaper one, could this be the reason? I get all my bras from M&S and got these at £10 for two.
I am starting to worry about my boobs being sore. When my doctor checked them when I was on HRT she said it was just the tablets and nothing to worry about but I am not taking the HRT anymore, I can’t feel anything untoward when I check them myself. I also can’t understand why my bra size hasn’t gone back down. Any advice please?

For sore (and lumpy, in case that helps anyone) I can highly recommend a high daily dose of Evening Primrose Oil, it sounds dramatic but another poster on here suggested this too me and it made a huge difference to my life:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Have you been back to your GP since you came off the HRT? Maybe you should mention to them if you still have sore boobs?
Also, why not go to your nearest department store (House of Fraser, John Lewis, Debenhams) to be measured professionally - it may be your bras that are the wrong size, and while they are a good place to buy, M&S aren't as good as they make out for measuring.0 -
Hi, thanks for your replies. I am going to see my doctor soon as I run out of my anti depressant tablets and I am going to mention about the sore boobs. My friend at lunchtime told me she had sore boobs when she was going through the change aswell.
I did get some evening primrose oil tablets and the pharmacists in Boots advised me not to take them with my anti depressants as they both contain the same ingredient but I am going to check this with my doctor. I have heard that evening primrose is good.0 -
Definitely get your bras properly measured, and regularly. At least every 6 months, perhaps with hormones going a bit haywire it might be wise to go every 3 months?
If I measure myself I am a 38F but what I actually have to wear is a 34G, so just because the tape measure says so doesn't make it true! I have a brilliant lady in the town where I live and the first time I went to her she told me what size I was without even touching me!!!0 -
m&s are TERRIBLE!!!!!!
for ladies wit D cup plus there is only one shop.....BRAVISSIMO.....amazing.
i threw my marksies ones out once id discovered bravissimo, they are amazingly made and support is what it should be0 -
I agree, go to Bravissimo. They fit you by trying the bras on until you get one that fits you well. Not all makes and models are the same fit, despite being labelled the same size. I know that Fantasie are much more generous than Panache etc. It's like a size 12 in one store is not the same as a size 12 in another. Daft but true!0

Get measured- and get remeasured wherever you go- I vary 3 different cup sizes depending on where I shop! (M&S a B cup, Elle McPherson a C cup, Fareform a D cup....) I think getting measured regularly and also bearing in mind that your bra size will change throughout the month and I'd have thought especially more if your going through a big change and taking hormone tablets as you are.
Also bear in mind that various styles may require you to get a different size also. And there are just some sizes that just don't feel comfortable whatever you try! I am yet to find a Wonderbra which doesn't feel as if its cutting off my blood supply!0
