Free legal: Is it risky?

I am looking to remortgage with Post Office. It is a fairly straightforward property to remortgage and the deal is fees free.
However, I have always used my own solicitors before, so a bit hesitant to go with the solicitors for the bank.
Is it standard for people to use the banks solicitors services as part of the fees free deal or should I still use the services of an independent solicitor?
Please help!:(

Most people will take the freebie.
The main risks in doing so are:
- no face to face meeting where the solicitor will go through the process and the mortgage contract in an independent face to face way
- the paperwork is likely to be done by a clerical officer, not a qualified solicitor
- any "non-remortgage" costs, if there are any, won't be picked up under the free deal
All these are outcomes that could occur if you appoint your own solicitor and whichever firm you use still has a duty of care to you as a client.0 -
Their solicitor is likely to be quicker and have had their fees negotiated down by the Post Office. Using your own should make no difference as solicitors are supposed to have their clients needs in mind so will only cost you more. Remortgages are quite straightforward but if you are uncertain of the abilities of the Post Office you could look at the mortgage magazines to see how the Post Office are performing.Property Consultant
