This is a good site. The lady who runs the site is doing a 1940s experiment and living off rations for a year in order to lose weight. She has a blog about it somewhere on the site.

Btw carrots were used during the war in sweet dishes a lot. I make one from a Marguerite Patten book called Duke pudding. It is basically breadcrumbs and carrot but is strangely delicious ;)

Also the penny has just dropped for me that rationing sweet recipes dont tend to involve eggs! Which is a godsend for us with the storecupbaord, we very rarely have eggs in :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Yes, that's why I'm interested in them. My dd is allergic to eggs (I might have mentioned that before - sorry :o ) and I use a few egg-free cake and pud recipes from the war ;)

Don't suppose anyone knows where I can pick up jam jars cheap. Mine got recycled the other day.

I've had to move all mine out of the kitchen into the shed! I do have great intentions of making my own jams, marmalades, chutneys, etc. But I haven't go round to it yet.

I found a great place for some really fun to try recipes. All are wartime ration recipes so very frugal. Some sound erm....interesting, others sound really nice!

Excellent - I will have to try some of these. I've been intrigued for a long time about wartime rations, and lot of wartime recipes were vegan too which is even better.
  • Thanks OP. Some super recipes here. Can't wait to try them.:T
