Please Help - Petsitting tax question

in Cutting tax
Hi
Please can someone advise me. I have a full time job and pay basic rate tax on it. However, I also do the occasional pet sitting job - I would say I only make £50-£100 a month (if that) from it. I want to pay the tax for it but have no idea what the best way to do it is. Obviously I cant afford an accountant for the sake of £50-£100 a month pocket money, but I want to make sure I'm legal and above board.
Also, do I have to tell my employer? Can anyone recommend the best way to go about paying the tax I owe please or maybe point me in the way of something to read about it? I have no intention to turn it into a proper business or anything and all the 'how to' books I have seen seem to presume you have a business with lots of money and can have accountants and stuff.
Many Thanks

You do not have to tell your employer.
You can either write to your tax office at the end of the year and say that you had casual fees of £xx in the year and ask them to collect the tax through your code number. Or you can ask for a self assessment form, complete it and pay the tax in one lump sum in January following the end of the tax year.
Look at www.hmrc.gov.uk or go into your lcoal tax office and ask them.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
Some employers will require you to inform them of any part time work - but it's not a general legal requirement, just a contractual one.0
