Turned down for credit but moving house - try again?
Hi,
I was turned down for credit on a TV in Currys - the credit company i think was called Creation. I was not able to provide a home telephone number during the application and i believe this may be a major issue i was turned down as my credit - as far as i know - is okay. I got a Virgin credit card on this address 12 months ago and since then i have not been late on any payments or anything like that. I am however in the process of moving house, i will be in a new house next week in which i will have a telephone number but i'm not sure how safe it will be to put through a further credit application using this address. I have been warned that multiple failed applications is a major issue but i'm not sure how i would be linked to my old address anyway. I guess what i'm saying is, am i okay to go ahead with a fresh application? will i be tainted by being turned down previously? is a landline number really that important?
thanks in advance.

Any application will conduct a credit search. Multiple searches can cause a problem obtaining credit. Are you on the electoral roll at your new address may I ask?Best Regards

not yet but i will be registering on the electoral role as soon as i'm in0

Wait until you are on the electoral roll at your new address (takes up to 6weeks or so to register at the credit reference agencies), then its probably also worth getting a copy of your credit file to make sure there is nothing on there you are not expecting.
After that you could probably try again.
Multiple applications are not great they have a short term affect on you credit file. Its perferable not to make more than around 3 applications in a 6month period. I suppose if you might need to make new applications in your new property for things like new utilities and communications contracts this could start to be an issue for you.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
is it likely that the lack of a phone number was a major factor?0

I think its probably unlikely that it would be enough on its own to be the reason you were declined.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
