Offered a new role, not been paid on the new rate

Hi all, i was offered an opportinity to "act up" in a more senior role within my curent organisation by my diretor who offerne me a pay rise int he interim for the length of time the post was required, or until they filled it. The increase amlunts to approx £4.5k a year. I accepted after been given a weekend to consider. Howvere 2 months have elapsed, and i have yet to receibe te increase. I received an email from my director advising she could only now offer 50% f the acting up allowance, no explannation given. I disagred as i accepted the acting up on the basis i would receive 100% of the allowance. Howveer, in current climate - we are going throug a reorganisation and jobs cuts are expected - i agreed to an 80 / 20 split of the allowance. I was asked that i would still be expeted to carry out the function of my sunbstantive post as well as the new rol e- which carries signiifcant risk and responsibility. I dont work more than 40 hours a week, so although im being asked to cover both roles, im not in fact doing 2 x 35 hour weeks. BUT i have yet to be paid the addiitoanl allowance. I have sent 3 more messages to my director askign on the status of thre acting up form - has it been signed, can i do anythting to get it to hr etc? she has ignored them all .... im not quite sure what i shoudl do in the circumstances
?
Can anyone give me any advice> Im mindful of current marekt / econmic conditions, but also mindful of having mickey taken ...
Thanks for reading and apologies for spelling.
Any advice gratefully received

I suspect that you already know the answer to this, but are hoping wildly that there is another one
There isn't.
If you have tried all the informal approaches and this isn't working, you have two options. You either make a formal complaint that the agreement has been breached and insist that you are paid at the agreed rate or returned to your substantive role; or you don't, and you hope that maybe the money might turn up eventually. Sorry, but it really is that simple.
Obviously, there are risks to either decision. If you go formal then you will be rocking the boat, and this may not be the impression you want to put across if there are job cuts etc., in the background, since it isn't going to endear you to the Director (or possibly anyone else either). If you carry on "nagging" you are going to run a similar risk of annoying the powers that be, but without getting any resilution one way or the other. And if you shut up, then there is every possibility that the money will never turn up. There's no right or wrong answer here - you will have to decide based on how you think the organisation will respond and how much that response matters to you against the possibility of either getting the money or loosing the acting up role.0 -

thanks thats a very fair assessment. im inlcined more than anything to see if i can appraoch our Exed Director (My DD's Boss) for an informal 5 minuter, who i get along well with, on the very seldom occasisons we meet, to express my disappointment that the issue on my "allowance" hasnt been resolved, despite being offered the role and with it the responsibilitieis and extra allowance back in April. The worst that can happen is she deem it inappropriate for us to have that chat - i would think unlikley, in my opinion, but will mean i incur the wrath of my DD by going behind her back. Standing your ground and being correct morally and profesisonally however is not always the best decisison. but irrespective of economic conditions there comes a time when you feel the mickey os being taken., My poiunt previoulsy raised with My director is that if the previous Project manager hadnt left for pastures new, he would still be doing the role (and just that role) at the increased rate ....
Im right, but semes im over a barrell to force the issue - so my next step after trying to see the exec director tomorrow and i that fails will be to withdraw my acceptqnce of taking the acting up role.... to me it isnt formal yet - as other than her announcng it to me, and infoirmaing the team of my new role - i havent received a new JD, or cash, or anything else from HR to suggest formality ... guess therein lies a problem. By not accepting the role however, may leave me in a dody posisiton when the cuts come round in July / August and this role still exists, they will overlook me, as i didnt accept it .....
!!!!!! .....
no easy answer - will see how the land lies tomorow ... and let ytou know ... there are some unfair folks around in this world that manage - somehow - to reach the top and inflict their misguided judgeent on others, without relaising the impact they have ...0 -
Regarding the situation if the previous postholder had not left be prepared for the response that, if they hadn't gone of their own accord, there would have been a redundancy situation already and that either your post or theirs would have disappeared.
As you cannot possibly do two full-time jobs in 40 hours a week, it seems to me that would have been the sensible management decision in any case given that it appears you are able to do both satisfactorily.0 -
If I were you what I would also consider is if acting up would help you find a better job if you were to be made redundant.
It sounds like they are trying to get the higher position covered on the cheap, which is not fair, but you have to make sure you don't end up without a job as they may be planning to make your old role redundant anyway.
Personally I would not request to move back to the previous job, but would still pursue the salary owed. Although this is a tricky one....0 -

fair point but this role is / or was until recent election a statutory requirement to have someone in place. else the grant funding wouldnt have been justified. / aka need to be returned.. in fact since the election this responsible posititon is still live (as is the system) and the very serious impliucatsion it involves, now fall on me .... but im yet to be compensated accordingly in line with the previous Proj Manager, or the same person in another LA..... worst case scenario - someone dies asa a resxult of an abuse of the system, which i have been asked to take responsibility for monitoring....0
