must admit I prefer the classic Italian version without cream etc, but I doubt the majority of people in Britain would recognise it as carbonara

anyway, I'm going to give the budget one mentioned earlier a try, just to see what it's like

if I like it & add it to my repertoire ;) I'll make up name of my own for it :D

I had the Italian version at Zizzi and it was simply sublime. Get a discount voucher from the restaurant vouchers section and treat yourselves.

Carbonara is a superb example of just how far dishes can diverge.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

I must try that next time I'm visiting St Andrews & eating out :)

    agreed about the divergence

food evolves (as does language) look at mincemeat for instance, I doubt many of us would relish the Medieval version!

How do you get calling that a carbonara? surely that's exaggerating slightly? I appreciate that it's cost-concious but bloody hell, it's like a lobster thermidor made with prawns - wrong!

Also, serve with 3 slices of bread?! I love carbs too but..
there are quite a few egg-free carbonara dishes on chef forums that I visited, and I'd not seen this receive negative feedback.

If there is any further commentary about the title being a problem I'll obviously happily change it :)

The family of 4 this is designed for has two members requiring nearly 3000 calories daily, so the bread is to keep up their energy needs, It is not being assumed that the women, younger people or the sedentary would eat the bread.

It is meant to be with ham really - with minced beef it would be more like canelloni without the pasta rolls. And I have no idea if it would taste ok. It would to me if I made it but I dunno how well you can cook! Lol :)
