Hair serum

Does anyone here use hair serum, does it make a difference when your hair is fluffy?

The best serum I've ever used is "Satinique Hi Gloss Serum" from Amway, which is a bit ironic, given the drabness of the Amway name, and all the big posh names I've tried. It comes in a blue 75 ml bottle for under £10. Pump some in your hand, rub it into the hair ends, not the crown of your head. When you've finished, wipe the remaining traces on your hand at the top of your head. Makes your hair amazingly smooth to brush/comb. Then rub a pea sized drop of a styling wax on your hand, and rub over hair.

However, I've read that long term use of serums can do bad things for your hair, so I've just started experimenting with applying olive oil on my hair 30 minutes before showering, 2-3 times a week.

Hi, thanks for this. How does serum wreck your hair long term? I thought it was just like a more intense conditioner.

Most serums are silicone based and apparently these coat the hair and can leave it lifeless. Personally I always use serum or oil on my hair as it is really coarse and it is the only way to keep control over it. At the moment I use Mashooq oil which is meant as a pre-wash oil treatment but I use it as a serum and it helps treat and contain my hair. Mashooq oil would leave many people's hair like an oil slick though as it is a combination of different oils.

I agree with the serums doing something long term to your hair. Maybe it wasn't allowing the oil treatment to get through, but I didn't experiment enough to find out.

My hair ends are a lot less brittle now that I've started this frequent oil treatment(currently experimenting with an olive oil, sunflower oil and castor oil mix, infused with lavender and rosemary cuttings - really cheap from my garden and I use it for my face and body!). My hair is waist length, and I stupidly had it straightened 18 months ago, so the ends have started splitting really badly.
