i know running a car would be expensive, i'm not plannin on gettin a fancy bmw, except in my dreams, but i'm so dreading the thought of all that walking at five in the morning/eleven at night, plus lugging all the shopping home in the rain/snow etc.

why does everything have to be so damned hard?

Sorry did not mean to put a downer on it. And I know you would not be running a BMW. I assume that you are coming up to 25 soon. But even at that age insurance will be silly. I know someone who has a car it is a 8 year Ford focus they are 20 years old and it is a he and his insurance is just over £1000 a year  I know you are little older and female but you are still going to be looking at £600-£700 a year.

And even if you get an older car it does not mean the insurance will be much cheaper. I had a G reg seat Ibiza 1.2L group 6 my husband has a S reg Daweoo Lanos 1.6L yes you have guessed it group 6 insurance. I am like WTH.

I do wish you all the best and hope you get what you want. It may be hard work but I am sure you will get there.

Oh dear - that's a pretty low wage and I think you're doing all you can.

Could you negotiate to have you gym fees stopped from when you start? It doesn't seem fair to me that you're having to pay while working there, probation or not!

Any chance of overtime in this job?
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

just trying to be helpful-if you do get a car on hr as you r a new driver it might be worthwhile asking if any come with free insurance then when you actually have to pay for insurance you should (hopefully) have a years no claims.
if you get an old 2nd hand car that isn't worth much always go 4 3rd party fire and theft-and always go through quidco!!
i should get £90 when i get my insurance in a few weeks!!! yeay!!

it's a good idea to get quotes before buying a car, i started with a 1.1 2nd hand car when i 1st passed aged 21 and stupidly went fully comp costing me £74 a month £800 a year!!!
    soon learnt my lesson,
this year insurance is £299 for a much bigger car (£17 a month) with £90 back from quidco!:j

i know! i was thinking of asking about just cancelling it, after all i was going to do it last week (i thought it was cancelled straight off, but only found out on sat it's after 3 months). don't know about overtime, but if there is any going i'll jump on it! i did think about dong a few nights a week in asda (next door) stacking shelves, but as i'm doing shift work it may be too irregular for them

calley and cattie, totally uderstand your just trying to be helpful :o and i agree with you, but goodness only knows how i'll cope come november, was just trying to think of ways round it  when i was insured on my ex's car it only cost £15 extra a year  and thats (obviously) for a learner! and dont worry i'd defo be going thru quidco for anythign like that now.

That is why I now alway buy a parkers/glasses guide before I buy a car so that I can weigh up what is the better cars with the lower insurance groups. When I bought my seat MSE did not exist and I just needed a small car ASAP. So was not thinking clearly. The car was worthless at the end. But it kept running. And I got rid of it because it would have cost at least £300 to fix it for the MOT and as the petrol in the tank was worth anything I scrapped it. Should have put it on ebay of freecycle.

But even that will not help when you are new young driver. As the insurance will still be huge. Unless you buy a brand new car and get insurance chucked in.

to be completely honest with you lynseyj, it might actually be cheaper ( albeit not completely MSE) to do whatever journeys you NEED to via cab.

I do my shopping with a cab occasionally. If you are only spending a tenner a week on food, no offence, but you are fairly unlikely to be carrying more than me and I usually do the bus ( and im not well so cant carry a load really) , unless its mass loads of tins time when I take a cab. A fiver every 2 weeks is much better than costs of petrol, insurance, MOTs, plus buying the car.

I dont really think having a car is moneysaving, and your SOA is very prudent as it is, so :t well done for that :money:
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Putting your debt onto your mortgage is not a good idea. You will be paying interest on the sum whereas you currently are not. You will also be paying that interest for many years so in the long run it will cost you more. Your mortgage payments will go up as well, so I cannot see how you would be better off.

You would also be turning unsecured debts into secured debts and that is not a good idea either.

thanks hun :D i've done my bestest after you dfw's kicked my butt for the sky/cinema stuff!

its not just the shopping tho, my new job has shift work, some days i'll be starting at six so leaving the house just after five in the morn, then others i'll be finishin at ten so not gettin home till near 11 and to be frank i'm almost scared at the thought of walking through certain areas of town between here and the gym (a guy was robbed at knife point on a street i have to walk along just this weekend at that time in the morn) and like i said there are no buses go from my 'side' of town to there, i'd have to travel out of my way to get a bus

it just so happens that asda is next door to my work so i'd be picking up my shopping after work like i do after the gym these days.
