Mystery Shoppers

I bet this is the wrong place to post this question :(

so many forums, so much choice!

On monday I am going along to an informal meeting to find out more about becoming a Mystery Shopper. Does anybody here have any experience of how exactly this works? Do they pay you to BUY goods/eat out or do they pay for the goods/meal and not pay you a wage?

Oh, and if anybody can think of a better place to post my question feel free to share!

Thanks.

I've been doing it for over 10 years. It used to be good at first, with fewer agencies and fewer shoppers, therefore fees were higher and so were standards. No there are so many doing it that fees have dropped considerably and often you only get a freebie such as burger etc, depending on the visit, and it's hardly worth doing it on a serious basis, although I still do it when I can fit it in with my other surveys.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

I've been a mystery shopper for House of Fraser for years. I get paid a set amount to 'mystery shop' a store and after I've sent in my report, I get paid. Its not much, but seeing as I'm generally going to be shopping anyway, I fit it in while I'm there.
I've also mystery shopped for several restaurants. I get paid to have dinner out. It's fun, the restaurants are reasonable, chain places and its a free meal!

Neither pay a salary - its just a few quid extra for not much effort.

Who do you do HOF through, or is it directly with them? I do a bit with other companies and am always on the look out for more..:D

I've been mystery shopping for a couple of years, I've shopped at Bannatynes health clubs and got a facial paid for, I've also done things like Joules clothing shops where I buy something for up tp £30, send them the receipt and my report and they refund whatever I've bought, not a great money making job but gets you a few freebies now and again, that's how I look at it anyway :)

we knew a mystery shopper for a large furniture group. they never bought anything. they were employed to check on sales staff performance on selling techniques and product knowledge.
they didnt actually need to buy a leather sofa to do that.
    Get some gorm.

You've been on here 5 years and not noticed the mystery shopping threads that abound these pages day in day out.....are you sure your powers of observation are up to it?

Totally agree. I very rarely MS now as very often it is not worth my time doing it.

I've applied to check out massage parlours and lap dancing clubs, I haven't heard anything yet.

    Fingers crossed.
