Wow, thanks guys.
Having had a day to chew the cud over this, I've decided to get in touch with another HI and see if they are a bit easier to deal with. Kuromei thats quite a memory
it was the Fareham one we were looking at! I might have a word with the Portsmouth branch and see what they say. When we were looking for a venue we actually only looked at two, the Inn Lodge in Portsmouth and the Fareham HI, and there was nothing wrong with the Inn Lodge it was just that the HI worked out cheaper. But it worked out cheaper on the £1000 package price, so with these new HI package prices it may be more worthwhile looking at the Inn Lodge again. Linky
Plus its a better location for OH's guests as its a bit closer, and cheaper for any overnight guests that might want to stay. I have looked at the Alverbank but its rather pricey
Another one I've seen is the Peter Ashley activity centre. They seem dirt cheap and have both BBQ and self catering facilities, so could be as cheap as we could make it. The down sides are, I dont think theres a bar (which would mean any money saved would go straight out on booze!) and its a bit awkward to get to without driving which is a bit of a pain.Mummy to

i feel the same whenever we mention we want a small wedding mid week afternoon tea style and no alcohol noone wants to know and after over 2 years weve still not found anywhere ok as they all start treating us like we are unwanted custom:mad:
Sorry to go off topic, but do try Tunbridge Well if you can, the Spa did exactly that wedding for a friend of mine and it was lovely, my own venue The Royal Wells will do this to x:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

two quick thoughts - many local independent pubs will do "mobile" bars, often FOC as they make a good profit from them - worth asking around.
Secondly, why not tell HI about your experience? head office details here0 -
joolzred, I think contacted HI head office is a great idea. The hotel will have the standard script that they have been given and not have the in sight to improve on it or be flexible. Head Office will be far more accommodating.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I would also have a look for a venue who allows you to use your own caterer. sounds like you have your own ideas of what you are looking for and I would not stop till you get it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
