Hair style/colour advice

We go on holiday in a fortnights time and hubby has generously offered to pay for me to get my hair done, at the moment my hair is shoulder length, i'm naturally brunette with a few grey hairs, I dye my hair myself, but recently it seems to be a different colour at the end than it is at the roots. I would love to go lighter, maybe even blonde(ish) but don't know the first thing about highlights and hair dyes as i'm always saving money I usually dye my hair and get my friend to trim my ends for me. I just realised that its been 5 years since I've had my hair cut:eek:. Do I just go for a nice dye job and get it looking nice and shiny and my grey covered or do I go for something else

If you are naturally brunette and want to go blonde get it done at the salon. (Does hubby know how much he will pay for a full bleach and tone, might triple the cut cost..)

If you just want a nice over brown you can experiment at home without messing it up really, jut if you pick a red based one, any grey bits will fade to orange, best going with ash brown first then you can warm it up over top of that.

Beware lots of salons now want to give you a dye test 24hours before if they haven't used dye on you before, and it can be a pain to get the test then go back again the next day!

Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there!

Lucky you, a holiday and your husband treating you! I would probably go for a good haircut, and perhaps a semi-permanent colour pre-holiday. A semi permanent usually gives great shine as well.
Are you going anywhere hot, as this can strip colour really quickly? That would be my only concern about a permanent colour.

Anyway hope you have a great holiday!

We are only going for a week in Cornwall, hopefully it will be warm but I don't think it will be hot. Yes I am very lucky, just need to decide what to get done, I know I want a good bit cut off, and maybe some layers
  • Have you time to go for the allergy test?

They are very strict on this these days.

Can you go to a good salon ? I am brunette and have just gone for three-colour mixed highlights red/gold/chocolate

    Confuse the eye ;)

There are lots of websites that do hundreds of different hairstyles with all different colours. Have a good look, print it off and take it in so they know. In my experience if you try and describe something to a HD it often ends up disappointing.
