Hi ,
Getting the dfw bug !!!
I moved into my current rented property about 6 months ago and since then i have been at powergen to settle my old leccy account .
According to them i owed them about £786 which i found ecessive to say the least.
Over the 21 months i was in the property i used (according to them) £1900 worth of power.(ecessive me thinks for a 1 bed flat)
I asked a simple question "is this figure correct?" . "could you send me a full history of my account intial meter reading" etc
Now a bit of background is required here . when i moved into the property which was a 1 bed flat with 2 heaters they came out and replaced the meter and to be honest it took forever for that to happen(all quite suspicious)
I was paying 60 pounds a month all the time which they said was fine , and that you would not have any arrears. time went on and after giving meter readings through my time at the property everything was on track and suddenly i was hit with this final bill that incidently i didnt get until june some 4 moths after leaving my old place.
so when i asked if this was correct they said we will look into it and as such have'nt heard a thing , although when i have phoned (to coin a phrase from a well known comedy show) "computer says NO", basically they dont know if it is correct.
how do i stand legally if they cant provide the information i asked about?
its not that i wont pay i just want it confirming thats all
Any ideas fellow dfw's??

goodness knows i find all gas/electic companies do this! did you tell them the exact date you were moving? (beforehand) sometime's if you haven't let them know you are going to move they charge the estimated bill to you,
someone in here must know your legal rights i on the other hand do not have a clue i'm afraid!!!!official dfw nerd club member no 214

Hi there. I had a similar problem a few years back (with a different company) and made many, many phone calls in an attempt to get it sorted. In the end I got so sick of it all that I sent them a polite but very firm letter that detailed my attempts to get the issue resolved and the facts as I knew them, etc. Three days later I received a short but sweet letter in return that stated "I confirm that the charges levied on the above account have now been cancelled and no futher bills will be issued in respect of this account". And just like that, the problem was sorted. I wish I had done it months before.
So my advice is send them a letter. As a legal document they'll take far more notice of it and act pretty swiftly to get the matter resolved. Best of luck.

Had a problem with Scottish Power, after loads of phonecalls letters etc, I got totally cheesed off and contacted Engergywatch, the gas and electricity watchdog.. Hey Presto all sorted within 2 weeks and £500 off our bill. If you're not getting any answers perhaps you might want to look at.

Do you have a copy of Powergen's "Standards of Service" leaflet. You might not do because they seem to try to disguise it so that you throw it away when they send it to you. On there it gives guarantees of standards of service and states the compensation you will receive if they fail to meet the standard. In particular:
Failing to answer questions about the accuracy of your meter within five working days of being told - £20
Failure to advise you in writing within 10 days when they have failed to meet one of their standards - £20
In the East Midlands Area - failure to reply within five working days to a query as to the correctness of your account - £20
In terms of the bill itself it sounds high to me. I would definitely write them a letter querying it formally and complaining about the way they have dealt with your previous query. Good luck!0 -
