Car Accident Query

Four of my relatives were in a car accident yesterday. A car pulled out in front of them and they ran into it. Thankfully no one was seriously injured, but at least three of them have whiplash injuries. The accident has been reported to their insurance company and they have insurance details of the other driver.
My query is, should they leave it up to the insurance company and their solicitors to pursue the personal injury claims or do they employ their own solicitor to do this?

It's entirely their choice. They are not obliged to use the insurance company's solicitor. If they employ their own solictor, it will not have a bearing on the value of any claims that are payable, as solictors' fees are settled separately. I have been in this position in the past and preferred to use my own solicitor.

i honestly don't think it would be in your relatives interest to leave it to the insurance companies solicitors. they will only be interested in recouping any loss on their part.

I'd look for an solicitor who can drive this forward for you. I've used Campbell & Haughey in lurgan if you're in the craigavon area, and i'd strongly recommend them.

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago and used the insurance company's solicitor. Found them completely incompetent and complained to the insurance company about them. Things finally started moving after this but will be sure to make my own arrangements in such matters in future. The solicitor was in Ballymena, by the way.

Those involved have now got their own solicitor, thanks to all for help.
