Health Insurance with a mortgage, is it compulsory

We are procceding with our first purchase, and after sorting through the formalities of our mortgage, the financial advisor, said we need health insurance, I just went with it. But after my grandad reading the T&C's of a abbey mortgage, it only states tha buildings ins is needed, nothing is mentioned of health insurance. Does anyone else have any clarification on this?
