Free D & A Eye test

Hi all, I got a voucher through the letter box for a free eye test through the door today, and was wondering about how reliable it's going to be.

I last went for a test in April 2009, and while my eyes weren't great I didn't need glasses, though she said I might need glasses in future. I was going to wait until next April to have a test (they say every two years don't they?) I thought though since I got this voucher I may as well have it sometime soon. (It expires in August.)

I'm a bit worried that it won't be reliable, as I say my eyes aren't great. Can I really trust them if they say I need glasses? Surely it's in their interest to tell me that I need them? Is there some kind of code of practice that says they can only recommend the glasses if they're necessary?

I suppose there's nothing to stop me having the the test and if they say I need them look somewhere else.

Any comments or experiences?

I had a discount voucher for D&A when my last eye test was due, and also got a good discount off glasses. I already had glasses but not through them. The optometrist seemed very thorough and recommended I had varifocals, which did make sense, and with the discount I could afford them more easily. But I couldnt get on with them and ended up back to what seemed virtually the same as my previous pair, only a bit stronger. When I said that to them, they said my only other option was 2 separate pairs of glasses and I really couldnt run to that then, but their service wasn't the most attentive. And the glasses themselves fell apart within a month! I got them to sort that but on numerous occasions I had to either go back to get them tightened up or do it myself. Would not use D&A again, but what bothers me is that I used Boots before, was really happy with them, but now found out they're all part of the same group as D&A

On the other hand, I've never had any problems with D&A, either the thoroughness of their eye tests for the whole family, or the glasses they've provided. No pushiness either when I've said I buy ready readers (all I need) cheap, and leave a pair wherever I need them!
