Found two very large bottles lurking at the back of my cupboard, made in 2001!! Too sweet then & too sweet now... any suggestions what to add to it. Tried soda water.....
It is a shame because it is perfectly palatable for some one with a sweet tooth.
Cheers!

How about drizling some over ice cream as a very luxurious sauce? My dad does this with his HM sloe vodka and it's lovely.
In a similar vein, could you add some to cooked summer fruit for things like summer pudding, or again to serve with ice cream? I'd imagine that would be quite , too.Back after a very long break!0 -
You said you tried it with soda water - did that not work? How about with tonic water which is a little more bitter. Or could it be added to white wine (still or sparkling) in the same vein as a kir royale?
Sounds yum to me!:j0 -
ADD MORE GIN! If that doesn't do the trick, add some Bitter Lemon to it as well or even some freshly squeezed lemon or lime-juice0

Many thanks CCP.
We are not really a sweet toothed family, but may pop some icecream in my basket when I visit the supermarket again, good idea!
Thankyou 2009ismyyear, will try the bitter lemon with twists of lemon or lime, & the white wine idea sounds a very nice possible alternative!
BitterAndTwisted, I laughed when you say add more gin!!! Think the family might be up for that one, we like the odd tipple!! Many thanks all xThe £2.00 Savers Club = £130.00 (Started Feb.06 -saving for a dream - to visit Thailand again!)0 -
Cant help with the sweetness problem I'm afraid but I am so curious as to how you made damson gin and how long it would take to make (assuming you cant wait 9 years for it!!! :P). Thanks.0

Nuttybabe, made the same way as Sloe Gin, usually ready in a few months...... not nine years!!! No after I tasted it I put the bottles at the back of the cupbard, really disappointed, stupidly thought that with time the sweetness would alter! I am having a clearing out presently, moving soon so had a couple of glasses last night with soda water. I wouldn't mind, but as I said they are big bottles........ one is 1 & a half litres!! BitterAndTwisted's idea of adding more Gin made me howl!! Bless! The £2.00 Savers Club = £130.00 (Started Feb.06 -saving for a dream - to visit Thailand again!)0

Try adding more gin or using it as a sauce over vanilla ice cream."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

mind you I am a bit partial to any kind of gin so it seemed like a logical solution to me0 -
use it as a base for Pimms? with all that citrus fruit etc added then the sweetness wouldnt be noticed (especially if you added a good dash of Angostura bitters (which really IS bitter)).0
