Storing the Picnic Basket

Options
It's just one week until the end of the summer hols and I am now thinking about how I am going to store away the picnic basket and coolbags until next year. The only place I have to store items of this size is in the cellar which is slightly damp.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can store these things in a damp place without them going horrid and mouldy as they are going to be down there for almost 12 months?

As long as they are dry when you do it. Wrap them in a bin bag and seal the top with some sticky tape.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Put in some of those bags of silica gel you get when you buy cheap handbags! They are there to discourage damp.

Because I have absolutely no suitable storage for them anywhere else. We only have one understairs cupboard where DH stores his trumpets (11 of them), the christmas decs and presents are also stored there. Everywhere else is only small cupboards where something that size won't fit :(

Under the bed? On top of the wardrobe? Put the coolbags inside the picnic basket and maybe try making a decorative feature out of it within the home - something like the stacks of wicker baskets/old luggage sets you see in home magazines now?

  • Hi Hun

I was watching a programme the other day about this type of thing....sad i know...but they recomended putting in a black bag, leave it slightly open and sprinkle bicarbonate of soda to dry up the excess moisture in the air:confused: Some people had left their picnic baskets in their lofts/garages for a couple of years using this method.
