We're planning a 90th birthday celebration and are trying to find out what things cost then and what wages were. Despite putting various questions into Google I can't find any info, apart from American prices. Does anyone know of a site with this info on, please?

I have a collection of vintage magazines and sometimes the adverts list prices - what items in particular do you want to find out the prices of?0

Hi Dandy-Candy, just average food prices, loaf of bread, milk, tea, average wages, house prices, that sort of thing. Maybe the cost of a pair of shoes or a winter coat.0

I found these prices in a 1923 copy of Good Housekeeping
Forhams toothpaste 2/6 a tube
Pomeroy face cream 2/3 a jar
"Utilities" (brand name) Pram standard £7:10:0 DeLuxe £10:10:0
Ladies shoes 21/-
Adult camel wool coat 27/6
Adult waterproof coat 36/6
Childs winter coats (age 9) 21/6 - 41/6
Edison Swan Vacuum £12:12:0
Midland furniture Co. 3 piece suite £19:19:0 Bedstead, mattress and pillows £7:17:6
Vinola soap and Wrights coal tar soap 6d a bar
Ambrosia dried milk baby food 1/3 a tin
Witney blankets 22/6 a pair
Compaction clothing cabinet (large double wardrobe) 29 guineas
Pullets (laying hens) 12/6 each
Prices for fresh everyday things like milk and bread probably varied from area to area. Hopefully some of these are useful to you!0 -
Hi hardpressed,
As your thread has fallen down the Old Style board, I've moved it to the I wanna board to see if you can get some more replies.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
