Incorrect Date of Birth for creditor on credit file

Hi all,

Was wondering if this is a problem and how to go about resolving it.

I've just checked my credit report on Credit Expert, as I have in the past. But this time I expanded all my creditors out to full details by mistake. I've not looked at this before, just the summary for each, so I thought I'd have a look at each as I 'hid' it again.

I've noticed that all the records for British Gas have the wrong date of birth for me. I think it's my ex's DoB but with my name. They also have "Miss" when I am a "Mrs". All the accounts with them are settled as I am no longer with British Gas, so does it make a difference that it is wrong? Who would I contact to correct this if it does? British Gas or Credit Expert?

Just tell the CRA (online query) that the data is inaccurate and they will resolve it by asking BG to send accurate data or remove the entry!

Failing that, write to GB direct and have them resolve it, it will affect your credit rating as it suggests fraud, or something dodgy at least! BG are cowboys though and really have no legal right to use CRA's - I always tell people to leave BG when they suggest sharing your data with a CRA.

I mean they can use a CRA but only if you agree to this at outset!

I've just sent an email to their customer services, so hopefully will hear something back, even if it's just telling me to tell British Gas. I've also mentioned to them that there is a reference in the aliases to me as "Mrs" but using my maiden surname and asked them to update this too.

Trying to get my credit file sorted out. Is there any way to remove, or at least tidy up, the addresses they hold? It's currently saying that they have 60 linked addresses! :eek: All of the ones mentioned are where I have lived, but they are linked back and forth all over the place, and there's even one that links to itself because one version has the county in it and one doesn't.

You need to speak to the CRA to sort out links, they always link if you've moved a lot so best to tidy it up...... it can be a pain but really you should speak to the CRA's cos unless you've lived at that many addresses, the links should only link to actual addresses that are actively involved in the linking process.

Example:
You live at address A and have a HSBC credit card. You then move to address B, then you move to address C and each move, you notify HSBC of the move. This in essence creates 3 links (A to B - A to C & B to C). These links will then link back to any additional addresses so long as that HSBC card is alive.

When you close the linked account, after 6 years all links go as does the actual history of the account. make sense? (its confusing to say the least!)
