Where will the jobs come from?

Right then, now that unemployment will be going higher due to all the governmental non-jobs and unimportant quangos being lost, where will all the jobs for the existing millions unemployed come from. The private sector is still finding funding difficult so can't see too many large businesses/industries starting up - it's a none starter, when will it end - I NEED A JOB!
I used to hear about lots of jobs to do with renewable energy and bio-tech, great if you're fresh from Uni or already in that industry but what about the rest of us?
As i've said before, you won't find a job unless you've done the specific job you're applying for before or you know someone who can get you a job. No point in going for a career change either right now as no company will be interested, they'll already have the pick of the bunch so to speak.
GRRR. Fancy a riot?

the jobs won't come from anywhere, higher unemployment will be an ongoing trend for years to come
rbs and directline are doing a big recruit in my city, they are advertising on the radio of all places.0 -
I passed on the recruitment number to a fellow job centre person I've seen there over the months for one of the 100's of Jaguar/Land Rover jobs supposed to be transpiring soon thinking they'd be in the Birmingham region and after my signing on day when I saw him again he said they offered him an interview - for a job in Newcastle.
No need to explain what came out of his mouth next...0 -

There's plenty of cleaning and care work going, but I suppose that would be too much like hard work for all those who have been shuffling paper and sorting paperclips for years0

Good news: Unemployment is much much lower...
Bad news: ...than it will be in 5 years time!!
Years ago we had mass-employment industries. In short we manufactured. Nowadays we import. All those millions of jobs to make the things we buy/use, are now overseas.
However, even if overnight we decided to start making our own goods again, the vast majority still wouldn't get a job because we have also imported a whole workforce who will work for a fraction of the money that you will. As a nation, this gives us three choices:-
1) Work for much less than the going rate.
2) Get rid of immigrants.
3) Never work.
Your choice...Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!

I doubt its going to get any better in retail. Take my local Sainsburys for example; 4 express tills have been replaced by 6 self service tills and one person supervising them. That's 3 jobs lost. Store like Argos only pay minimum wage yet they are replacing staff with self service terminals.
Supermarkets are very efficient, their revenue per staff member is much higher than independents. When a supermarket opens creating 100 jobs it's actually a net loss of 100 or more jobs from local independents.
Who knows how many book shop staff each Amazon employee replaces? As so much of the packing process is automated perhaps Amazon only need 1 employee to replace 10 in a book shop?
Most retail jobs aren't particularly well paid but they do provide first jobs, weekend jobs and that sort of thing. We're losing them by the tens of thousands, modern retail is so ruthlessly efficient we simply don't need everyone in employment to keep the country running.0 -
Agreed. At the point we should be encouraging people to get jobs so they can pay taxes and not be paid benefits we are cutting jobs left right and centre.
A lot of business are also waiting to see what the government are going to do with VAT before recruiting too as if VAT is raised they will have difficulty passing the whole of that cost on to customers and will most likely hold off on new employment because they can't afford it.
Even if you have done the same role before when there are 100+ people applying for a single role its not going to be easy in the current climate!0
