claiming tax back worry

hi, since august last year i've been on the BR tax code. i took my p60 into the inland revenue office in leeds at the end of may. lady there said i will get a cheque in august. (rebate as i should have been on 647L code).

my worry is, could this take far longer as i've been hearing horror stories on bbc1 watchdog

Well, I think June til August is long enough to wait! Most tax offices have 8-9 weeks post on hand, so her estimate is about right.
If you had sorted your code out during the year, you wouldnt have this wait now.

I suspect the lady at HMRC knew what she was talking about. And that refunds will start (they have a large backlog because of problems / deficiencies with the new PAYE system) to flow in June / July ........ so she was giving herself a bit of leeway with 'August'.

Otherwise ...... end May to August was a bit excessive, in a normal year.
