Not really sure what you're asking. Are you saying that most of the jobs you are applying for is via an agency or do you mean that agencies are advertising false jobs? Although they shouldn't they do sometimes do this in order to gather a collection of good CVs to sell to companies.

A recruitment agent essentially cold calls business' to see if they have any vacancies or needs, if they do then they send a sample of CVs for the manager to peruse. If the manager likes any of the CVs then the agent agrees a rate and hiring process and contacts the person to start it up.

This is only in some cases, there are a number of ways an agent can find out about vacancies and speculatively send in CVs and a good agent will be contacted by a company as soon as they have a vacancy. It really depends on the agent and the kind of vacancy.

    Hope this helps.
  • "what is in it for recruitment agencies" - Well - the recruitment agency will charge the company a figure - Lets say £9ph - And then pay you a different figure - lets say £6ph - So they make £3 an hour just by you turning up to work! If it is a permenant job then the recruitment agency will charge a percentage of your annual wage - so if your wage is £15k and the recruitment agency sets the percentage at 15% then they will have earned £2250 just by submitting your CV.

They do sometimes advertise non existant jobs (they arent supposed to) but they need CV's to send to companys, and they cant get CV's without having jobs, but they cant get the jobs without the CV's! (vicious cycle isnt it)

If your going for a temp role then the proces sis:

Sign up with agency, they find you a temp role, you go to work, your timesheet is sent to the recruitment agency and they pay your wages, tax, NI etc

If its a permenant role then the process is:

Register with agency, they canvass your CV for the perm role, company with the vacany will interview you, if your successful and get the job then you get a contract with the company, company pays your wages etc and agency takes their cut, waves ta ra and away they go

I hope that makes sense? x
