Stopping old provider DD's

Eon tells me they have completed my changeover and they will start taking my fixed DD from 1st July --and that I dont need to do anything. What about my DD's with the present providers, dont I need to tell the bank to stop paying them , or do Eon cancel them during the setting up of their own?

You should contact your bank and tell them, although under the DD guarantee the bank have to refund any additional money your current supplier takes for a final bill - unless of course you have been notified in advance.

It is not a good idea to cancel your DD now as your current supplier is entitled to remove your DD discount.

    Hi ANGLICANPAT,

Standard procedure is the losing supplier will automatically cancel the Direct Debit when the final bill is produced. This allows the company to either claim in full any final amounts owed on the final bill or refund any credit showing on the final bill.

E.ON has no control over the Direct Debit that is registered with the losing supplier.

So; as Cardew points out if you don’t agree with the procedure you’d need to cancel the Direct Debit with your bank to be certain no monies are claimed. But of course there is the issue of any discounts you may receive.
