Hi everyone (and welcome to all newbies)
Re the recent posts about creditors calling I tend to agree with those who say they speak to them. Once your DMP is up and running creditors often just need to confirm that your circumstances are still the same. Otherwise I find that, if I don't speak to them, then the phone calls (usually automated) just continue. All the creditors I speak to (and I have a lot!) are fine.
Having said that it is very rare that a creditor calls. (I'm 20 months into my DMP now).
I had a letter from a solicitor acting for Lloyds TSB stating that a CCJ may be issued if I didn't pay up but I just wrote a letter back to say I was with CCCS and I heard nothing more!
Good luck fellow DMPers. Here's to a debt free futureDeeBee0 -

I made some token payments last month with CCCS advice as had huge car bills to sort. I wrote the all creditors and sent receipts, a number have reinstated interest so am considering options, gggggrrrrrr

Hi HH!
Sorry to hear it's all gone a bit bottoms up for you.
But keep the faith! - you know by now that the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing.
Keep plugging on at them. You're living on a restricted budget with no credit; there is no shame in having to reduce your payments to cover essential repairs. (OMG remember the days when we flashed the plastic at the garage-then it was all absorbed in the never-never total )
So give yourself a pat on the back. You've been proactive and informative with your creditors. Bring 'em back on line chuck!

Hi, just a quick question for all my fellow DMP DFW'ers
I am on a DMP with CCCS - two years in, currently owe just under £18,000.
One of my creditors, Nationwide, to whom owe £2,900.00, have just been granted a CCJ despite the fact that I am on a DMP and am maintaining payments. I have requested a Redetermination of the judgement as they wanted £160.00 per month and my DMP is £61.00! :rotfl: of which Nationwide (or is that Nation-snide? lol) get £12.00.
Assuming the Redetermination comes down to the DMP amount of £12.00, would I make payments to Nationwide via the court or within the DMP via CCCS? If I make payments via the court, can I increase the CCJ payments in the future to clear it quicker, if finances allowed of course?DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499
28th October 2019 - £13,505 - 27% paid off.

Having said that, I had a nostalgic look back through some of the old thread, and in the words of Fat Boy Slim, "You've come a long way, baby"
No need for any head banging just yet...

Hello TF!
Nostalgia are us
If only we'd known then what we know now................
I had a quick peep back too. I find it hard to believe also - I really was that quivering, vomiting (sorry!), frightened, sleepless blob who first appeared, asked and recieved support on here over 3 years ago.
To all newbies and those struggling; take heart. Worry as you might; just like you'll never see a 20 year who's not potty trained, so you'll never see a seasoned DMPer who doesn't take it all in their stride.
But don't trash the wily F & F plan yet! Things are moving now. Have received enough hot air to fill a ballon big enough to cross the Atlanticbut being stronger, braver, more informed etc than all those years ago, I'm hanging in there!
How goes it with you and Sainsbury's - any news?

Hi Chrisblue
Sorry not going to be much help to you but just wanted to be a friendly voice
Really surprised a CCJ has been granted. Stongly suggest you return all the court paperwork within the requested time frame to keep everything straight. It must be surely be costing Nationwide more to take you to court than the whole of your debt, and why after all this time???Duh!
Absolutely certain any court would recognise and support your payment, and probably chastise Nationwide for bringing action against you.
However, would phone CCCS and ask for expert advice there. Sure they will help you.
('Grantlien' (hope I've got the name right) has had CCJ experience - maybe search for posts for further info. from someone with similar experiece?)
Good Luck - and let us know how it goes for you

Hi,
I need advice! We were cold called the other day by a Debt Management company. Usually we would tell them where to go but since returning to work on fewer hours after maternity leave, we are really feeling the pinch and are absolutely stretched to our limits :-/
After finding out I could get the same advice through CCCS for free (thanks to this website!) we decided to see if they could help.
We owe approx £23500 to 15 creditors (scary how that happens!) We are not in any arrears at the moment with anything but like i say we are stretched to our limits, often using more credit just to live on. The CCCS suggested we pay £725 per month on a DMP and this would take 33 months to repay. I'm guessing this payment term is based on all the companies agreeing to freeze interest?? We just can't decide whether this is the right thing to do or not?
We need to take control sometime because before we know it we will be maxed out and missing payments, but at the same time this massive step absolutely terrifies me! I am worried that companies will refuse to freeze interest and we will be paying this off for 10 years, and also what it will do our credit history. If it does end up being 10 years, and credit history stays on your file for 6, that in effect is us off the radar for 16 years! I'm also worried having seen other peoples posts saying they have been threatened with court action/given CCJs etc. That also scares me. We will need a bigger house in the next year or 2 (we only rent at the mo) and with a credit history thats shot to pieces I can't see us passing a credit check... Plus the demands through my door will only stress me out! But at the same time if we don't do anything now the situation is going to get much worse!
What shall we do peeps? Any advice welcomed :-)0 -

Hello to you and welcome! :hello:
Just a quick reply, as my stomach thinks my throat has been cut, so I need to get a sugar rush soon!
Firstly, you are managing just (now) but how long can you keep on robbing Peter to pay Paul? Believe me, from one who has been there, you are just burying your head in the sand and storing up trouble for the future. Eventually there will be no more money to juggle
Better to bite the bullet now and face up to your future. Ask yourself honestly - if you're so worried now how can it be worse???
If you do decide a DMP is right for you, please don't be bamboozled by fee paying companies. Go to CCCS or Payplan online. There is also the Citizens Advice Bureau for help but they are strained by financial cutbacks at the moment unfortunately
Very few of us on this support thread have been taken to court and even then, the judgement has been in their favour.
Mostly it's a case of being open with your creditors and letting them know you're having difficulty but are commited to honouring your debt.
Read back a few pages to get a feel of how a DMP might be for you. For most it's a period of learning how to budget, discovering the value of money and taking control at last. You WILL be become stronger and able to deal with whatever comes at you, but mostly it settles into a day to day thing. You live with it and it doesn't trouble you overmuch
Maybe the nugget of gold hidden in the mountain - you get to learn the value of the important things in life?
All the best to you, whatever you decide is the way forward,

No surprise to me at all! - look at my past posts and you will see how stubborn Nationwide are. - my advice seek the redetermination and also send a separate letter to the court outlining what you are doing to address your situation, make sure you mention about fairness to all creditors etc etc... The courts will make a determination based on what you can afford to repay (normally the DMP amount) - in my case payments continue via payplan - judge not impressed with nationwide at all, did not even award them costs! -0 -
Thanks Twit Head and Garantalien
I have already requested a Redetermination, citing that I can only afford DMP amount. Have had no reply yet.DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

Ditto to what TH says, but also think of the alternatives, and how long you are likely to be in debt for if you carry on as you are. In my position, it would have been forever with no end in sight.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430
