Cordless Phones 'Seizing Up'

Hi all

I have 4 cordless BT Freelance 1500 dect phones and 1 base unit - they operate finre except that at least once a day the phones all 'seize up' and I cannot make or answer calls. I need to switch off all the phones to restore them to working order.

As you can imagine running round trying to switch all 4 off when the missus wants to answer the phone is a tad annoying.

I have de-registered them all in a variety of orders and just now only have handset 1 switched on, but the 'seizing up' is still happening.

My last test is to switch off the base unit at the mains and start again.

Any advice or suggestions would be welcome

many thanks

Jim

Have you had the phones long, 'cos I'd be taking them back for replacement for an apparent hardware fault...

Sounds like a fault or bug in the base station. You don't have a wireless router do you?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

oh dear, don't tell me that makes a difference :o

I just sent back a cordless phone that wouldn't answer calls or make calls although I could get a dial tone. The base is located very near to the wireless router and as new one is on its way should I move it away from router?

Most wireless kit uses the same 2.4Ghz frequency (phones, wireless pc's/routers, video senders), so they can and do interfere with each other. Most have a switch so you can change channels to minimise interference, but I would say having a base station and wireless router next to each other is not a good idea if you can avoid it.

Do you have any problems with reception from the wireless router? Usually that wireless device is said to be affected by cordless phones, rather than vice versa -- but your kilometreage evidently varies!

I have had the phone for about six months with no problems before developing this fault and the base has always sat beside the router but now I know it might be a problem I'll set the base up away from the router.

No problems with the router, its is set between the pc which uses a dongle and the laptop which is wireless enabled.

As for kilometreage I haven't the foggiest what it is so I guess its okay :)

thanks both and sorry to the OP for hi-jacking the thread.

Thanks all for your replies, I do have a wireless router but this is in the bedroom and the phone base unit is in the living room.

These phones are only about 2 weeks old and replaced an older type cordless phone which had no problems.

Sounds like albatross might be right in that I have a dodgy base station.

Will investigate getting either it or the whole system replaced

    cheers,
    Jim
